During our journey so far, we have come across many different type of robots including humanoid robots, medical robots, social robots, aerial robots, even historical robots & automatons. While we have already covered 32 robots till date (in just a span of a month), we thought of coming up with something different this time. Something that may help our audience with a chance to have a first hand experience of watching the robots serving, actually. And the best place we could found was in the ‘restaurants’.
If we consider usage of robots in different spaces, restaurants are one of the few places where robots are used the most. Just for an instance, PUDU robotics, a leading manufacturer, has already deployed over 56000 robots globally. So it can be assumed that there are tens of thousands of robot waiters operating in restaurants worldwide.
Before sharing the list of the places, where robots are used we will take you through some of the companies that are delivering robotic solutions for the robotic industry. Below are some of the top names:
- Miso Robotics: Known for “Flippy,” an AI-driven robotic kitchen assistant that automates tasks like frying and grilling.
- Pudu Robotics: Offers service robots such as “BellaBot,” designed to assist with food delivery within restaurants.

1. Pepper Parlour
Pepper PARLOR, located on the 5th floor of Tokyu Plaza Shibuya in Tokyo, is a premium café that seamlessly integrates robotics into its dining experience. Opened in December 2019, the café features SoftBank Robotics’ humanoid robot, Pepper, working alongside human staff to serve customers and provide entertainment.

2. Hajime Robot Restaurant
Hajime Robot Restaurant, situated in Bangkok, Thailand, offers a distinctive dining experience by integrating robotics into its service. Located in the Monopoly Park shopping complex on Rama 3 Road, the restaurant is accessible via taxi from central Bangkok.

3. Robot Cafe
Robot Cafe, located on the ground floor of Lana Plaza in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, is Kenya’s first establishment to incorporate robotic technology into its dining experience. The café employs robots to serve food, gliding among human waitstaff to deliver orders directly to patrons’ tables.

4. CaliExpress by Flippy
In December 2022, CaliExpress in Pasadena, California, introduced the world’s first fully autonomous, AI-powered restaurant, CaliExpress by Flippy. This restaurant uses the Flippy robotic kitchen assistant developed by Miso Robotics to automate cooking tasks like grilling and frying, creating a fully autonomous dining experience.

5. Haidilao Hot Pot, Shanghai
Haidilao Hot Pot in Shanghai incorporates robots for both food preparation and service. Robots greet guests, take orders, and deliver dishes directly to tables. The restaurant also features an AI-powered kitchen for precision cooking, ensuring consistent flavors every time.

6. Xbot Robotic Cafe
The Xbot Robotic Café is located in Dubai, UAE. It operates as a fully automated café, utilizing robotic systems to prepare and serve a variety of food and beverages, such as coffee, ice cream, milkshakes, and more. It is part of the growing trend of automation in the food service industry, where robotics is used to improve efficiency and customer experience.

7. Bellabot at Denny’s Canada
BellaBot is a service robot that helps deliver food and drinks to tables, enhancing the dining experience with its autonomous navigation and customer interaction. It has been implemented in several Pizza Hut locations in China as part of a pilot program to integrate robots into the service industry.

8. Icealice Robotic Cafe
IceAlice is a robotic café developed by VLT Robotics, a Dubai-based company specializing in robotic solutions for the food and beverage industry. Introduced in 2015, IceAlice is recognized as one of the world’s first robotic ice cream vendors, featuring a mannequin-like robot that serves ice cream to customers.

9. Makr Shakr
Makr Shakr is a pioneering robotic bartending system that allows users to create personalized cocktail recipes in real-time through a smartphone application. The system features robotic arms capable of mixing and serving a wide variety of drinks, offering an innovative and interactive experience for patrons.

10. ADAM the robot Barista
ADAM is an advanced humanoid robot developed by Richtech Robotics to serve as a bartender, barista, and boba tea maker. Equipped with two agile arms, ADAM can prepare a wide range of beverages, including cocktails, coffee, and bubble tea, offering a consistent and efficient service experience.

11. Picnic Pizza System
The Picnic Pizza Station is an innovative food automation system designed to streamline pizza preparation in commercial kitchens. Developed by Picnic Works, this modular system automates the assembly of pizzas, enhancing efficiency and consistency while reducing labor costs and food waste.
